Parque das Nações

This is a special place for me, where I have spent some of the happiest moments of my life. I guess I can say we will always have Parque das Nações. And Paris. But everyone always seems to have Paris anyway.

For those of you unacquainted with its history, this very modern part of Lisbon was built where once possibly the worst part of the city stood, with old industries and whatever sort of crap.

Here the World's Fair was held in 98 (Expo 98), which received 11 million visitors from all over the world. This changed Portugal a great deal, as a very uncommon feeling of euphoria spread across the always a bit too depressed portuguese.

After the Fair, nothing was ever quite the same (mentality wise). Surely not in Lisbon, and also not in the rest of Portugal. For this reason, when you go to Parque das Nações, you get the special feeling of standing in a place that changed the heart of the portuguese forever.

Disclaimer: The fact is this area was rebuilt to hold Expo 98 and then integrated in the city. All the rest I've written is just my personal interpretation. In my last sentence, "forever" is used for practical purposes.
